Tracing for the Gemini CLI records each prompt as a trace, with the model calls and tool calls it made nested beneath it. This page covers the install and the Gemini specifics.

Install

On macOS or Linux:
On Windows:
The installer prompts for your license key and project name, stores them in ~/.atatus/harness/config.json, and registers the hooks in ~/.gemini/settings.json. Add --with-skills to also link the manage-gemini-tracing skill into the current directory.

What gets captured

Gemini reports model calls and agent steps as separate events, so a turn that involves several model calls shows each one rather than collapsing them into a single span.

Where things live

Eight hook events are registered: SessionStart, SessionEnd, BeforeAgent, AfterAgent, BeforeModel, AfterModel, BeforeTool, and AfterTool.
~/.gemini/settings.json holds your own Gemini CLI settings as well as the hooks. The installer adds its entries without touching the rest of the file, and uninstalling removes only those entries.
